ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar departed for New York on Sunday to accompany Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session, scheduled from Sept 21 to 25, the Foreign Office said.
The foreign minister has an extensive and wide-ranging schedule of meetings during the high-level week.
“He will attend the meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu & Kashmir during which he will highlight Pakistan’s unwavering support for the right to self-determination of the Kashmiris,” the statement said.
Dar will also attend several OIC Ministerial meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA, including the OIC Foreign Ministers’ Annual Coordination Meeting, as well as other OIC Contact Group meetings.
“As a reflection of Pakistan’s strong support for the Palestinian cause, DPM/FM will attend several high-level meetings on the issue of Palestine, including meetings of the Group of Eight Arab Islamic countries, as well as the High-level Ministerial Meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, among others,” the foreign ministry said.
Dar will deliver a statement during the UN Security Council high-level briefing on Artificial Intelligence, in addition to attending the High-Level Meeting on Pandemic prevention, preparedness & response. He will also chair the ECO Council of Ministers meeting.
He will also hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from several countries, in addition to accompanying the prime minister during high-level bilateral meetings and engagements.
During his extensive engagements, the foreign minister will highlight Pakistan’s ongoing efforts for regional and international peace and stability, and exchange views on important regional and international challenges.
