ISLAMABAD: Security forces killed five terrorists and safely recovered 23 abductees during an operation near Kalat in Balochistan, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), terrorists belonging to Fitna al-Hindustan attempted to disrupt the movement of people along the Pakistan Highway (Chaman-Karachi, N-25) during the night of Sept 18 and 19 by establishing a check post for abduction for ransom, extortion and vehicle snatching.
Security forces responded immediately, and five terrorists were killed following an intense exchange of fire, the military’s media wing said.
The forces also recovered 23 abductees from the terrorists’ hideout, along with six trucks, three buses and two cars.
A large quantity of weapons, ammunition and explosives was also recovered, according to the ISPR.
President Asif Ali Zardari also praised the security forces for killing the terrorists, rescuing the abductees and recovering the vehicles.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the security forces for the successful operation, saying they had foiled terrorists’ attempts to disrupt peaceful movement on the national highway and to carry out kidnapping for ransom, extortion, and vehicle snatching.
“Operation Azm-e-Istehkam” against terrorism will continue, the prime minister said, reiterating the government’s resolve to eliminate terrorism supported and sponsored from abroad.
The ISPR said sanitization operations were continuing in the surrounding areas to eliminate any remaining terrorists and ensure the safety of the local population and national highways.
