ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has paid tribute to the security forces for foiling a terrorist attack in South Waziristan, a district bordering Afghanistan in northwestern Pakistan.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Sunday, Prime Minister Sharif commended the security forces for thwarting a cowardly attack by the Indian-sponsored Fitna-ul-Kharij terrorists on a security check post in South Waziristan and for killing four terrorists during the operation.
Praising the professionalism, extraordinary courage, and timely action of the security forces, the prime minister said, “Our brave soldiers have once again proven that no threat to Pakistan’s security will be tolerated by foiling the nefarious designs of the enemy.”
The statement further quoted the prime minister as saying, “The entire nation stands by its brave armed forces and law enforcement agencies.”
“The government and security forces will continue their operations with full force under Operation ‘Azm-e-Istehkam’ until the complete eradication of the scourge of terrorism from the country,” the statement added.
Earlier on Saturday, Pakistan Army foiled a terrorist attack on a security forces check post in South Waziristan District by militants belonging to Indian-sponsored Fitna Al Khawarij, killing all four terrorists, including a suicide bomber, and destroying an explosive-laden vehicle.
Pakistani authorities officially use the term Fitna al-Khawarij to refer to the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), drawing on a historical Islamic reference to underscore the group's attacks on civilians, security forces and state institutions.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) today, “a cowardly terrorist attack was attempted on a security forces check post in South Waziristan District” by terrorists belonging to Indian-sponsored Fitna Al Khawarij.
The attack was “successfully foiled, killing all four Khwarij, including a suicide bomber and destroying an explosive-laden vehicle,” the military’s media affairs wing said.
“The Khwarij sought to breach the check post security; however, their nefarious designs were checked and decisively foiled by the vigilant and resolute response of security forces,” it added.
ISPR said that the attackers’ “explosive-laden vehicle was successfully engaged and destroyed outside the perimeters of the post, killing one suicide bomber in it, which failed to cause any damage.”
“Displaying unwavering courage and professional excellence, security personnel engaged the remaining intruders, forcing three khwarij in a nearby compound, who were later neutralized in a deliberate clearance operation with precision; without any casualty on forces' side,” ISPR added.
The military also said that sanitization operations were being conducted to eliminate all Indian sponsored terrorists found in the area, as a relentless counter terrorism campaign under the vision “Azm e Istehkam” by security forces and law enforcement agencies would “continue at full pace to wipe out the menace of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country.”
