ISLAMABAD: British multinational consumer healthcare company Haleon sees Pakistan as a key export hub and will continue to expand its investment in the country, the company's Director Corporate Affairs for the Middle East and Africa Operating Unit, Fahad Qadir, said on Monday.
Speaking in an interview with Pakistan TV Digital's South Speaks with Saqib, Qadir said Haleon was strengthening rather than scaling back its presence in Pakistan.
“We see this as a destination for export,” he said, adding that the company operates a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Jamshoro and continues to invest in expanding its operations.
He said that the company had already committed around $15 million “and a lot of that has actually already realized.”
“It's already happening on the ground,” he said.
Qadir said that the company was expanding its production facility to add capacity and bring innovation to the country, terming “Pakistan as a critical hub.”
“We see this as an export market, which will obviously help the government in bringing in dollars, which are very valuable,” he said.
Explaining the rationale for the increased investment, Qadir said Pakistan's large population offered significant market potential, while its industrial infrastructure and policy environment made it well positioned for exports.
He said that the country’s population size was an opportunity to serve the local market.
“The infrastructure is there. The policies are there. The will is there,” he said.
He also praised the role of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) and the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), saying their export-friendly policies had encouraged the company to expand production, introduce innovation, localize manufacturing and increase exports to other Haleon markets.
