ISLAMABAD: Pakistani security forces have recovered M16 rifles, M4 carbines, grenade launchers, night-vision goggles, satellite communication devices, and sleeping bags bearing foreign military markings from BLA terrorists.
The trail traces back to August 2021, when the US withdrawal from Afghanistan left behind an estimated $7 billion worth of military equipment, including more than 300,000 weapons and 42,000 surveillance and optical devices.
According to the Small Arms Survey, arms smuggling continues across Pakistan's 2,600-kilometre porous border with Afghanistan, with well-established weapons markets operating in border regions.
Multiple reports indicate that US-made weapons have since found their way into the hands of both the BLA and the TTP.
