ISLAMABAD: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim rejects attempts to link Pakistan to terrorism in an interview with Indian media on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit held in New Delhi, stating that his intelligence establishment had not been provided with evidence linking Pakistan to state terrorism.
In an interview with NDTV Senior Managing Editor Vishnu Som, a question over the Pahalgam attack was raised and an attempt was made to draw a connection between Pakistan and the incident, which took place in April 2025.
The prime minister said, “None of my intelligence establishment, their engagement in India would come back and tell me, yes, there was a state-sponsored terrorism there.”
The global policy advisory firm “The Dominion Strategies,” while sharing the Malaysian prime minister’s interview on X, wrote that the “Indian media tried Malaysian PM into blaming Pakistan,” which was later reshared by the Malaysian prime minister on X.
On April 22 last year, the Pahalgam incident took place, where armed men attacked tourists in Pahalgam, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), claiming the lives of 26 people.
Without offering any credible evidence, India accused Islamabad of orchestrating the attack, a charge that Pakistan denied and also asked it to hold a neutral investigation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for an independent investigation into the deadly attack while also criticizing India for leveling “baseless allegations” without a credible investigation or evidence.
During the passing-out parade of cadets at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA), the prime minister stated, “Continuing with its role as a responsible country, Pakistan is open to participating in any neutral, transparent, and credible investigation.”
He also criticized India for what he described as a “pattern of exploitation” by leveling “baseless allegations and false accusations without credible investigation or verifiable evidence.”
So far, New Delhi has failed to provide any credible evidence to support its allegation against Pakistan by linking it to the Pahalgam attack.
