ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday joined leaders from regional countries as they gathered in Bishkek for the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan.
As the prime minister arrived at the meeting venue, he was received by the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Zhaparov.
Besides Prime Minister Sharif, President of China Xi Jinping, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev are attending the meeting.
The meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State will be chaired by President Sadyr Zhaparov as Kyrgyzstan holds the rotating presidency of the SCO from 2025-26.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Sharif will assume Pakistan’s Chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State (CHS) for 2026-27.
The prime minister will also attend the SCO Plus Summit, which will include representatives of non-member states and international organizations.
During his visit, the prime minister is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Minister for Communication Abdul Aleem Khan, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and senior officials.
He will also hold bilateral discussions with President Zhaparov on the full spectrum of Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan relations, during which the two sides will comprehensively review these ties and discuss ways to further deepen bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade and investment, energy, regional connectivity, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
