ISLAMABAD: Pakistani security forces have killed 11 terrorists during intelligence-based operations in Balochistan’s Kharan and Washuk districts, the military's media wing said on Wednesday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations were conducted on Sept. 6 and 7 following reports about the presence of terrorists belonging to the “Indian proxy” Fitna al Hindustan.
“Eight terrorists were killed in Kharan on Sept. 6 after they attempted to establish a roadblock and disrupt local traffic,” according to the statement.
“Security forces promptly intercepted and engaged the terrorists,” the statement said, adding that eight “Indian-sponsored terrorists” were killed during the engagement.
In a separate operation in Washuk district on Sept. 7, security forces conducted an intelligence-led operation after receiving information about the presence of terrorists.
According to the ISPR, troops effectively busted a terrorist hideout, triggering an intense exchange of fire in which three terrorists were killed.
Security forces also recovered 2.9 tons of explosives from the area, which the ISPR said were being used to prepare improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The ISPR further said that sanitization operations were continuing in the areas to eliminate any other terrorists who might be present.
Security forces and law-enforcement agencies were continuing their counterterrorism campaign under “Azm-e-Istehkam”, approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan, it added.
The army’s media wing said that the campaign would continue “at full pace” to eliminate the threat of what it described as foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country.
